Prozac (fluoxetine) for Anxiety and Stress "I have had 0 panic attacks all my life until last October when I got my first one, which I called 911. Two days later, I had another one in which I was taken to the ER and given Ativan. They said it was due to a panic attack/anxiety. It scared me both times and I felt like I was dying. The nurse said she took Lexapro, so I asked my doctor to let me try that one first since the nurse had great luck, but I didn't like it. My coworker told me she takes Prozac so I switched meds to try it and WOW, I'm not anxious like I used to be, where I wanted to pass out at the grocery store or in the middle of a packed restaurant! I have been taking 20mg and my doctor said since I had such success, he wants me on 40mg. This medication, Prozac, has let me live life again and not feel like I'm going to pass out in public."

Prozac (fluoxetine) for Anxiety and Stress "I am extremely sensitive to medications, even over-the-counter herbal supplements; I can't take them. I had a lot going on in my life and started having anxiety attacks. I started taking 5mg of Prozac (cutting 10mg tablets in half). I noticed a change almost immediately. I feel much more relaxed and happy; I don't dwell on things that I might have in the past. I let things roll off my back more easily, and no more anxiety attacks. I'm more outgoing (I have somewhat of an introverted personality), more patient, and enjoy getting out and doing things more. I was afraid of gaining weight so I put off trying an antidepressant for a long time. It's been a month and a half, and I've never felt better in my life."

Prozac (fluoxetine) for Anxiety and Stress "I began experiencing panic attacks two months ago, due to a lot of stress and anxiety from work. It got to the point that I was scared to leave the house. I was prescribed 10mg of Prozac, and the side effects for the first 10 days were horrible. My anxiety increased by 100%, felt like I wanted to crawl out of my skin, insomnia, loss of appetite, nausea. I wanted to give up, but the only thing that kept me sane was reading all the positive reviews on here. Everyone was right, it had to get worse before it got better. By day 10, I was waking up less at night, eating more, and my anxiety decreased. By day 14, I felt like my old self again. This drug needs time to get into your system!"

Prozac (fluoxetine) for Anxiety and Stress "I started on 20 mg and increased to 40 mg for anxiety and depression. I cannot praise this drug enough for how calm it makes me feel. I feel like I can handle any problem, big or small, with a clear head. Thank you, Prozac, for giving my life back to me."

Prozac (fluoxetine) for Depression "I've been taking Prozac for three months now, and I'm the best I've ever been. I can see the beauty in the world that I saw when I was little. I don't think bad thoughts anymore. Sometimes I miss a few days on my medication, and I'll see something like a road, a song, or an old diary entry from my journal, and it will be a subtle reminder of how I felt, but I am strong enough to fight those thoughts and push them away. I smile more, and I talk to people. I'm not scared to talk to people in public anymore. My anxiety is almost gone. I don't feel depressed anymore, and I love myself. I don't hate myself anymore. I've gotten distracted by how beautiful and amazing I can be that I don't think about flaws or imperfections. I feel great. Prozac is a miracle."

Prozac (fluoxetine) for Panic Disorder "Do not give up! This drug does work but it takes time. I am going on week 4 of 20 mg, and I am finally starting to feel better and more like myself. The first week was REALLY hard. For 2 days, I had massive anxiety, worse than ever before, to the point where I felt like I couldn’t breathe. I almost stopped this medication, but I pushed through because that’s what everyone said. After those few days, it got better. I don’t have a lot of 'what if' thoughts anymore, and I am starting to feel myself. I know this is different for everyone, but my advice is to try to push through the first 2 weeks if you can!"

Prozac (fluoxetine) for Anxiety and Stress "This drug saved my life. It did not work for the first month and a half, but when it did! Amazing results! No anxiety! And I suffered from panic attacks 24/7. Not saying this drug alone will fix all your problems, but it helped me so so much! Gave me my excitement for life back."

For Hot Flashes "This is my first time ever writing on a forum but feel compelled since these tablets have been a mini miracle. I can sleep! I’m not shouting at my children! I like my husband again! I’m being nice to my work colleagues! I’m looking forward to my 50th birthday! My holiday to Mexico! OK, I’m yawning a lot which is rather odd but otherwise I’m thrilled and also grateful to all of the lovely ladies who have taken the time to post on this forum. For anybody reading this, my doctor wanted to see me on week three and I was feeling a little odd and unsettled. But great, now I’m week four. Long may this positive feeling continue."

This medication was absolutely amazing for my OCD and anxiety/panic attacks. I am on 50mg."

Prozac (fluoxetine) for Depression "I've been on fluoxetine 10 mg for only 5 days. I have noticed some changes already. I have the worst anxiety, and for the past 3 days, stressful situations seem a tad bit less stressful for me. I already lost 4-5 pounds on it. It makes me never think about food anymore. It makes me not hungry for hours. Even a small granola bar can keep me satisfied and full for 5-6 hours... But I force myself to have breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Things seem brighter, colors are more vivid to me. Overall, I think it's starting to work. I will re-respond in a few weeks to touch base."

Prozac (fluoxetine) for Anxiety and Stress "Been on Prozac for 3 weeks now and starting to see light at the end of the tunnel. Stomach pain and nausea the first couple of weeks but much better now. I'm sleeping well and feel more relaxed. I find I actually want to do things like take a walk, play with grandkids, clean the house, and take care of myself. I didn't want to do anything before Prozac. I just existed. Thanks to Prozac, I'm now living at 56 years old!"

Prozac (fluoxetine) for Depression "Prozac saved my life. I have been on Prozac for almost 4 years now, in various doses depending on the intensity of my depression, and my mood/behavior has immensely improved since. The first time I attempted suicide they put me on 10 mg in the psychiatric facility. After three days of the Prozac, the horrible thoughts completely silenced. I woke up in the morning... happy?! I felt a real smile. I could finally laugh and feel real joy out of human interaction. There were zero intrusive thoughts. I went up to 30 mg and then 40 mg after a few months, which I am still taking to this day. I have tried to come off of Prozac and unfortunately I am just not ready. Which is okay! Prozac has been such a wonderful option for me. It feels great not wanting to hurt yourself all of the time. I can’t remember the last time I had suicidal thoughts. Eventually I will taper back down to 20 mgs, and one day I dream to be Prozac free. Happiness is possible! (:"

Prozac (fluoxetine) for Depression "Started on 10mg while seeing a mental health professional (counselor) simultaneously. Medicine kicked in at about 3 weeks of treatment and got better when MD increased the dosage to 20 mg 6 weeks into treatment. It's been a consistent once daily oral capsule 20 mg for the past 3 1/2 months. Mood has lifted. Wakes up with clear thoughts. Lessened racing negative thoughts. Reduced anticipation of negative events and occurrences. Obsessive-compulsive rituals reduced. Answer the phone with more ease and less concerned about making mistakes in front of people. Anxiety greatly reduced, lessened depressive thoughts. Definitely helps you to look forward to life. It works better to see counselor at the same time so you can track progress."

Prozac (fluoxetine) for Anxiety and Stress "This is my 7th week on Prozac. I decided to finally give it a try as my anxiety and low mood can get the best of me sometimes, and I'm tired of just hoping for better days, living through the misery, and knowing better days aren't coming. This med will affect people in too many different ways, and I've heavily researched all the cons and side effects that come with it. The only negative side effect I've experienced is some mild shaking in the first 3 weeks, like some sort of constant restlessness. I've had insomnia prior to taking this, and it has made it harder to go to sleep in the first 4 weeks, but after that, it did certainly get easier for me. I can't say it has transformed me entirely, but what I can confirm is that I feel relaxed and at peace in situations where I never would before. I care less about certain things and don't ruminate over silly things like before, and it's definitely liberating. I also feel less hungry than usual and fill up quicker on meals, which is a bonus for me."

Prozac (fluoxetine) for Anxiety and Stress "I have battled anxiety (GAD), panic disorder, depression, hypochondria, and OCD for over 10 years. I did not want to be on medication but you get to a point where you will try anything. My doctor prescribed 10mg of Prozac. I had no negative side effects and it took about 8-12 weeks to see full results. I can’t believe what a difference 10mg can make. I feel 95% normal and that is a lot when I felt 0% normal. It’s amazing. Don’t be afraid to try a medication if you are suffering."

For Depression "I have been on fluoxetine for 14 months currently, and it has changed my life. Before I started taking it, I was very unstable, and I would be in tears at any minor inconvenience. When I first started taking it, I couldn’t believe it. I felt happiness, and I could cope with problems better. I have my fair share of ups and downs, but I am so happy for certain periods, and I laugh and smile every single day I’ve been on it. The only side effect is sweating and moments of euphoria, but I understand why these are called happy pills. They don’t make me feel numb; they make me feel happy. I did not gain weight due to this medication; I only gained my smile back."

Prozac (fluoxetine) for Anxiety and Stress "Not happy, not sad, just there. Actually not even there... Everything is kind of like a daze. But it feels a lot better than being crazy stressed out all the time and freaking out over trivial things, just I don't feel like myself. But the good thing is I'm living in the moment instead of the past or worrying about the future."

Prozac (fluoxetine) for Depression "Prozac is great! When you first start, you can feel a little anxious, but hang in there. It has changed my whole outlook on life after being really depressed after a divorce and trying to raise two kids on my own. It gave me the confidence to get a job and enjoy working again. Before it, I had little confidence. I love laughing again, which I do a lot now! No side effects for me, except feeling a bit weird and anxious for the first few weeks."

Prozac (fluoxetine) for Depression "I finally had the guts to mention my depression to my doctor. Thank God! I was depressed for years and was at the point of uncontrollable crying, missing work because of it. This was not the wife and mother I wanted to be, so I finally asked for help. It has changed my life. No more depression and many things that used to cause me stress bother me much less or not at all. Not many side effects except fatigue, appetite loss, and a spacey feeling that only lasted a few days. Please don't wait to ask for help. I wish I had done this long ago."

Prozac (fluoxetine) for Depression "So i have had to take this medicine on and off for some time. It has worked in making me feel safe and able to enjoy doing things again. The longest I have been on it is 3 months. My advice would be to stay on it for longer than 6 months to see the fool effects but if you feel healed then consider stopping it just so you are not dependent on a pill. Every depression episode is different it may work faster sometimes it may also make you feel worse at first, you may get headaches, feel sick from your stomach. Sometimes we tend to be stubborn and stop taking the medicine making us go through suffering again. My advice is take it change your thoughts into positive ones and try as best as you can to stop overthinking instead enjoy everyday life. God bless you all."

Prozac (fluoxetine) for Depression "Well, I just started taking Prozac to help me deal with depression and anxiety. I returned from a tour in Iraq about three months ago, and my symptoms kept getting worse and worse. I've been taking Prozac for about a week now, and I'm already feeling relief from it. It's like all the problems are still there; they just don't get to me like they used to. It's been very helpful so far."

Prozac (fluoxetine) for Anxiety and Stress "I am one of the few people who doesn't suffer from some mixed form of depression & anxiety; I'm straight anxious. I have been on 10-20 mg Prozac for about 7 months now - starting was a little rocky in terms of heightened anxiety, gastrointestinal problems, and nausea, but those leveled off after 3 wks. Now, in conjunction with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and daily mental work, I have to say that this medicine really has helped me get to a place where I can actually implement permanent habits and positive thought cycles and RELAX, whereas before I had a lot of trouble not being stuck as a result of my ruminating, anxiety, fear, guilt, etc. It's also been really great for my marriage, and my husband has been a big teammate. It's been good."

Prozac (fluoxetine) for Anxiety and Stress "This medicine has been a lifesaver for me. It's the only antidepressant that has worked. I lost weight on it (which I needed to), feel less stressed, can handle stress, thoughts are not obsessive anymore, I laugh more and interact more with friends. I don't feel scared every day. If you are thinking of taking it, give it at least 4-6 weeks to kick in. It's worth it."

For Depression "I’ve been off and on fluoxetine since I was 14. In the past, something bad would happen (family death, etc.) it would throw me into a deep depression for months. I would go to the doctor, go on fluoxetine, do a bit of counseling, feel better, and decide I didn’t need to take it anymore. This is because I am an idiot. I have spent 23 years struggling, avoiding meds if I can, so preoccupied with the implications of being on meds (am I a 'mental'?) that I missed the point. Some of us just need medicines. Finally, at 36 years old, I realized I was too tired and too miserable to waste any more of my life feeling this way. So I went back on the meds. And I feel amazing. I’m a chronic case; I’ll be taking these for the rest of my life, but I’m just relieved to not have to live that daily struggle anymore. I have so much energy. I know not everyone experiences this, but if you’re out there struggling with depression, just go to the doctor. Life can be better."
